Create a Quiz Stage in Learn

Prerequisites

• Administrator or Content Administrator access to the Learn back-end admin interface.
• A plan for the quiz content, including questions, answer options, and a pass mark.

How a Quiz Stage Behaves for Learners

• The introduction screen showing the number of questions in the quiz and the pass mark needed.

• The questions themselves, which come in one of two forms:
  • Multiple choice questions - select the correct answers to a question and submit them.
  • Reordering questions - rearrange the provided answers into the correct order and submit the final order.

• The completion screen once all questions have been answered, showing whether or not they passed the quiz. Between each quiz question, users are shown a "Correct" or "Incorrect" popup, saying whether their answer was correct or not, and optional feedback added by the admin when creating the quiz.

• A custom quiz with different question types.
• A featured image (stage card only). To complete a quiz stage, users must answer all questions and correctly answer enough to reach the pass mark.

Steps: Create a Quiz Stage

1. In the Learn admin area, click Add new under Quiz Stages.
2. Add the title of the Stage.
3. Navigate to the Featured Media tab and add a featured image.
4. Set the Interest categories for the Stage to help learners find relevant content.
5. Configure the Stage settings in the configuration panel at the bottom of the admin page.

6. Create the quiz using the Quiz Builder.
   • See the Using the Quiz Builder section below for instructions.
7. Click the Publish button in the top right of the page.

Stage Configuration Options

• Content Locked: Ticking this checkbox will lock the stage until the previous stage has been completed, meaning users must move through the content in a specific order. Unlocking the stage will allow users to access the stage at any point in their learning journey.
• Pass Mark: Set the number of questions a user must get correct in a quiz in order to pass. Setting a pass mark to 0 allows users to pass a quiz without any correct marks, and can be used for non-essential quizzes.
• Stage Duration: Setting the duration of the stage will give users an indication of the time they need to complete the stage. The duration is purely to help users when looking at the stages; it will not set a deadline or time limit to the stage.

Using the Quiz Builder

• Multiple choice - choose the right answer(s) to the question.
• Reordering - rearrange the list of answers into the correct order.Questions can be added in the Builder by clicking the relevant button at the bottom of the window.

Important Notes

• The featured image set in the Featured Media tab appears on the Stage card only, not within the quiz itself.
• The pass mark can be set to 0 to allow all learners to pass regardless of their score, for example for non-essential knowledge checks.
• Quiz Stages use page-wide translations (not per-block translations). To add translated content, use the Language section in the publication panel at the top right of the admin page.
• Points for Quiz Stages are fixed at 10 points per correct answer on the learner's first successful attempt and cannot be configured at the Stage level.
