Prerequisites
- Administrator access to Evotix Learn
- A SCORM-compliant content package (provided as a .ZIP file)
- SCORM content already uploaded to the Learn Media section (or ability to upload it)
- Understanding of Learn stage configuration concepts
- Familiarity with Interest categories and stage locking settings
Problem/Intent
Organizations often have existing SCORM-compliant learning content from other LMS platforms. This article solves the problem of how to integrate that content into Evotix Learn missions while maintaining tracking and reporting capabilities. Users need this when they want to reuse existing SCORM courses within the Learn platform rather than recreating content from scratch.
How SCORM Content Works in Learn
When a learner opens a SCORM stage:
The SCORM package loads within the Learn window
No pop-ups or separate browser windows are used
Progress and scoring behave according to the SCORM package itself
Completion is recorded when the SCORM course reports it back to Learn
Learn supports standard SCORM packages provided as a compressed .ZIP file.
You must upload the entire ZIP, not the files extracted from it.
Preparing Your SCORM File
Before creating a stage, make sure you have:
A valid SCORM 1.2 or SCORM 2004 package
A ZIP file containing the full package structure
A clear naming convention for easy search and reuse
A description (optional) if you want to document its purpose
If the SCORM file is not yet in Learn, you’ll upload it as part of the process.
Steps
1. Upload SCORM Media (if not already uploaded)
- Navigate to the Media section in the left-hand menu of Learn
- Click Add new
- Upload the SCORM .ZIP file (do not unzip or upload individual files)
- Save the media file
2. Create the SCORM Stage
- In the Learn platform, navigate to the SCORM Stages section
- Click Add new under SCORM Stages
- Enter a descriptive title for the stage
- Set the Interest categories for the stage (to help users find relevant content)
- Configure the stage settings:
- Determine whether the stage should be locked or unlocked
- Refer to the stage configuration documentation for detailed locking options
- In the SCORM media Links section:
- Search for the SCORM file you uploaded earlier
- Select the appropriate SCORM file from the results
- Click the Publish button in the top right corner of the page
Notes & Warnings
- File format requirement: SCORM content must be uploaded as a compressed .ZIP file. Do not extract or upload individual files from the package.
- Display behavior: SCORM content loads within the existing Learn window; it does not open in a new browser window or tab.
- Content flexibility: While SCORM courses often include complete course content and quizzes, they can be combined with other content types (video, text, quiz stages) within a single Learn mission.
- Media management: If the SCORM file is not yet available in the SCORM media Links section, it must first be uploaded via the Media section before it can be selected in a stage.
Troubleshooting
Issue: SCORM file does not appear in the SCORM media Links section
Cause: The SCORM file has not been uploaded to the Learn Media section.
Resolution:
- Navigate to Media in the left-hand menu
- Click Add new and upload the SCORM .ZIP file
- Return to the SCORM stage creation page
- Search for the file again in the SCORM media Links section
Issue: SCORM content does not load or displays an error
Cause 1: The uploaded file is not a valid SCORM package.
Resolution:
- Verify that the file is SCORM-compliant (SCORM 1.2 or SCORM 2004)
- Re-export the SCORM package from the original authoring tool
- Re-upload the file to Learn
Cause 2: Individual files were uploaded instead of the .ZIP package.
Resolution:
- Delete the incorrectly uploaded files
- Upload the complete .ZIP package without extracting it
Issue: Users cannot access the SCORM stage
Cause: The stage is locked, and prerequisites have not been met.
Resolution:
- Edit the SCORM stage configuration
- Check the locking settings
- Ensure prerequisite stages are completed or adjust locking rules as needed
Issue: SCORM stage does not track completion
Cause: SCORM package is not properly configured to communicate completion status.
Resolution:
- Check SCORM package settings in the authoring tool
- Ensure the package is set to report completion to the LMS
- Re-export and re-upload the SCORM package if necessary
