A PDF Stage (a type of Stage in Evotix Learn that gates a mandatory PDF document, requiring learners to click through every page before the Stage is marked complete) is used to create training materials using PDFs and ensure that all pages of the PDF are viewed. PDF files may also be added using the Block Editor (the content creation tool used to build stages and resources in Learn), but PDFs added this way are not mandatory to view. Each PDF Stage supports a single mandatory PDF file, which is added using the linking process described in this article. Any additional PDF files linked beyond the first will not be mandatory and may be skipped by learners.
This article explains how to create and configure a PDF Stage in Evotix Learn (the Evotix training and learning platform). The workflow is contained within Learn and does not require configuration in Assure.
A tutorial on setting up a PDF-based training stage. This video details how to upload, structure, and present PDF resources effectively within the Learn platform.

Prerequisites
- Administrator or Content Administrator access to the Learn back-end admin interface.
- The PDF file to be used as the mandatory resource must either already exist in the Media section of Learn, or be available for upload.

How a PDF Stage Behaves for Learners
- The learner opens the Stage and is presented with the mandatory PDF.
- Learners must click through all pages of the PDF in order to complete the Stage.
- If you choose a PDF Stage, you do not have to use the Block Editor to create the content. The Block Editor is still an option to add additional text or other content in addition to the primary training content.
- Any PDF added via the Block Editor body area is not mandatory and can be bypassed by the learner.
Steps: Create a PDF Stage
- In the Learn admin area, click Add new under PDF Stages.
- Add the title of the Stage.
- Navigate to the Featured Media tab and add a featured image.
- Add supplementary content to the body of the Stage using the Block Editor.
- Note: Any PDF files added here are not mandatory to view.
- Set the Interest categories for the Stage to help learners find relevant content.
- Configure the Stage settings in the configuration panel at the bottom of the admin page.
- See the Configure your Learn Stages article for full details on all available options.
- In the PDF media Links section, search for the relevant PDF file and select it.
- If the PDF file has not yet been uploaded to the platform, navigate to Media in the left-hand menu, click Add new, and upload the file. Then return to the PDF Stage to link it.
- This linked file is the mandatory PDF. Learners must click through all pages to complete the Stage.
- Click Publish in the top right of the page.
Stage Configuration Options
- Content Locked: Ticking this checkbox locks the Stage until the previous Stage has been completed, enforcing a specific content order. Leaving the Stage unlocked allows learners to access the Stage at any point in their learning journey.
- Stage Duration: Setting a duration gives learners an indication of the time required to complete the Stage. The duration is informational only and does not set a deadline or time limit.
Stage Points: Defines the number of points a learner earns upon first completion of the Stage. By default, PDF Stages award 10 points on first completion.
Important Notes
- Only the first PDF added via the PDF media Links section is mandatory. Any additional PDFs linked there will not be mandatory.
- PDFs added via the Block Editor body area are never mandatory, regardless of the Stage type.
- The PDF file must be uploaded to the Media section of Learn before it can be selected in the PDF media Links section.
