This article explains how a Learn Administrator (a user with back-end content management access in Evotix Learn, the Evotix training and learning platform) assembles existing Stages (individual learning activities such as articles, videos, quizzes, or SCORM packages) into a Mission (a collection of Stages grouped by topic that represents a single training course), and then publishes the Mission ready for assignment via the Assure People module (the Assure module that manages training assignment, due dates, and compliance tracking).
The recommended method for assigning training to learners is to link a published Mission to a course record in the Assure People module. This enables due dates, recurrence, and compliance tracking to be managed centrally in Assure.
Cross-module scope: This workflow spans Learn and Assure. Learn handles content creation and delivery. Assure handles assignment, due dates, and compliance tracking via the People module and Training Needs Analysis (TNA). For full guidance on linking a Mission to an Assure course and assigning it to learners, refer to the Training Management: Managing and assigning courses from the Evotix Learn platform in Assure article.
Group related stages together into Missions to create structured, goal-focused learning journeys within Learn.
Prerequisites
- User Role: Learn Administrator or Content Administrator with back-end access to the Learn Admin Area
- Existing Stages: At least one published Stage already created in Learn (Article Stage, Audio Visual Stage, Quiz Stage, or SCORM Stage), ready to be linked into a Mission
- Planning: Mission name and intended Stage order planned in advance, with the knowledge assessment (Quiz Stage) placed last
- Integration (for required training): Learn must be integrated with Assure, and the Assure People module must be configured for Training Needs Analysis if the Mission will be assigned as required training
Understanding the Mission
Steps
Step 1: Create the Mission
- In the Learn Admin Area, navigate to Missions in the left-hand menu.
- Click Add New.
- Enter a descriptive title for the Mission (for example, Health and Safety Demonstration Training). The title should clearly reflect the training topic, as this name will also appear in the Assure course dropdown when linking to a course record.
Step 2: Link Stages to the Mission and Publish
- Scroll to the Mission Stage Links section on the Mission admin page.
- Search for each Stage by name and select the Stage to add it to the Mission.
- Add Stages in the intended learning sequence, for example:
- An Article Stage (for example, an OSHA postings reference item)
- An Audio Visual (AV) Stage (for example, What is Fatigue and What Causes It?)
- A Quiz Stage as the knowledge assessment (for example, Staying Safe as a Pedestrian knowledge check)
- Click Publish to publish the Mission and make it available in the Assure course dropdown for assignment.
Best practice: Place the Quiz Stage (knowledge assessment) at the end of the Mission, after all Article and Audio Visual Stages. This ensures learners view all instructional content before being assessed. The Quiz Stage can be configured as Content Locked, preventing learners from accessing the assessment until the preceding Stages are complete.
Note on Access Groups: The Mission admin page includes an Access Groups setting that can restrict which learners see the Mission in the Learn App. This is not the recommended method for controlling training assignment. For required training, assignment is managed via the Assure People module. If no Access Group is selected, the Mission remains publicly visible to all users in the platform.
Warning: The Mission must be published in Learn before it will appear in the Assure course dropdown. A Mission in draft state cannot be selected when creating or editing a course record in Assure.
Step 3: Link the Mission to an Assure Course (Recommended Assignment Method)
- Training to be assigned to learners with a Required By Date
- Recurrence patterns (for example, annual refreshers)
- Completion tracking and compliance reporting in Assure
Learner Experience in the Learn App
- The Mission appears in the learner's assigned training list in the Learn App dashboard.
- Within the Mission, the learner sees the linked Stages displayed in sequence.
- Stages configured as Content Locked (such as the final Quiz Stage) are inaccessible until the preceding Stages are complete.
- If a learner has previously completed a Stage in another Mission, that Stage may already display as complete when it appears in a new Mission.
- To progress from one Stage to the next, the learner scrolls to the bottom of the Stage content and clicks the Next button, which loads the subsequent Stage.
- Article Stage content: Article Stages display full text, images, and embedded media. Completion is recorded when the learner scrolls to the bottom of the page.
- Audio Visual Stages: The learner must watch or listen to the featured media to the 90% mark before the Stage is marked complete.
- Quiz Stage: The learner must answer all questions and reach the configured pass mark before the Stage is marked complete and completion is reported back to Assure.
Context: Pathways and Levels (Legacy Capability)
- Pathway: The overall learning curriculum, comprising one or more Levels
- Level: A section of the Pathway grouping related Missions by theme or topic
- Missions can be linked to a Level using the Level Mission Links section on the Level admin page.
- Levels can be linked to a Pathway using the Pathway Level Links section on the Pathway admin page.
- Pathways can be assigned to individual learners from within the Learn Admin Area via the People section and Pathway Links on a user's profile. However, this method does not enforce due dates, recurrence, or compliance tracking in Assure, and is therefore not recommended for required training.
Recommendation: Use the Assure People module to assign Missions as required training rather than building Pathways in Learn. This ensures compliance tracking, due date enforcement, and recurrence are managed centrally.
Notes and Warnings
- Mission must be published before Assure linkage: A Mission in draft state will not appear in the Assure course dropdown. Publish the Mission in Learn before attempting to link it to an Assure course record.
- Stage order matters: Stages are presented to learners in the order they are linked in Mission Stage Links. Plan the sequence before linking, and always place the Quiz Stage last.
- Content Locked Stages: Configure the Quiz Stage as Content Locked to prevent learners from bypassing instructional content and proceeding directly to the assessment.
- Cross-section completion: Stage completion is recorded at the platform level. If a learner has completed a Stage in another Mission, that Stage will already appear as complete when it is included in a new Mission.
- Learn is typically used with Assure or Evotix 360 and not as a standalone product. Integration is required for full training management functionality.
- Regulatory or compliance training must be assigned as required training via the People module to ensure due dates and recurrence are enforced.

- Cross-module implications: Missions built and published in Learn are linked to course records in the Assure People module. This is the recommended method for assigning required training to learners. Assure manages assignment, due dates, recurrence, and compliance tracking. Learn manages content delivery and completion. Missions must be published in Learn before they appear in the Assure course dropdown. Pathways and Levels are available in the Learn platform but pre-date the Assure integration workflow and are not recommended for training delivery. Full guidance on the Assure side of the assignment workflow is covered in the Training Management: Managing and assigning courses from the Evotix Learn platform in Assure article.
