This article explains how a user can identify their currently active Organisational Unit (Org Unit) within Assure, and how to switch to a different Organisational Unit using the Organisation Tree selector. The active Organisational Unit determines which records a user can see, as each record in Assure is associated with a specific Organisational Unit. Switching to a different Organisational Unit does not automatically grant access to records in that unit; visibility is controlled by the user's Role Permissions. This is a single-module, platform-wide behaviour relevant to all Assure users with multi-unit access.
Changing the Organisational Unit You Are In
What Is an Organisational Unit?
An Organisational Unit (also referred to as an Org Unit) is a node within the hierarchical structure of your organisation as configured in Assure. Every record in Assure belongs to a specific Organisational Unit, and the Organisational Unit a user is currently working in determines which records are displayed to that user.
Identifying Your Current Organisational Unit
The currently active Organisational Unit is displayed at the top of the Assure interface at all times. This bar is persistent and always visible regardless of which area of the system the user is navigating.
How to Change Your Organisational Unit
To switch to a different Organisational Unit, follow these steps:
- Locate the Organisational Unit name displayed in the persistent bar at the top of the page.
- Click the Organisational Unit text.
- A window will appear displaying a chart of your Organisation Tree (the hierarchical structure of all Organisational Units accessible to you).
- Click the desired Organisational Unit within the tree.
- Click Select.
The system will relocate the user to the selected Organisational Unit. Records displayed throughout Assure will now reflect the newly selected Organisational Unit, provided the user holds the correct permissions.
Permissions and Record Visibility
Switching to a different Organisational Unit does not automatically grant access to the records within that unit. Record visibility is controlled by Role Permissions assigned to the user.
- A user who navigates to a different Organisational Unit will only see records in that unit if their Role Permissions allow it.
- Access to specific Organisational Units can be restricted by managing a user's Role Permissions.
Note: For guidance on configuring permissions, refer to the User Permissions articles.
