Evotix Learn (the Evotix training and learning platform) is designed for global, multilingual audiences. All learning content can be translated to ensure learners access materials in their preferred language. After content is created in the default language (English), translations are applied using one of two methods depending on the content type: per-block translations or page-wide translations. Per-block translations are applied to individual content blocks within the Block Editor (the content creation tool used to build Stages and Resources in Learn) and apply to Article Stages, Audio Visual (AV) Stages, PDF Stages, and Resources. Page-wide translations are applied using a language selector in the publication panel and apply to Quiz Stages, SCORM Stages, Missions, Levels, Pathways, and Notifications. The Learn App displays content based on the learner's device language setting. If no translation exists for a given language, the system falls back to the default language. This article explains both translation methods with step-by-step instructions and a translation method reference table.
A guide to translating content within the Learn platform. This video covers how to enable translations, manage different language versions, and maintain consistency across materials.
Prerequisites
- Administrator or Content Administrator access to the Learn Admin Area (the back-end admin interface for Evotix Learn).
- Content must already exist in its default language before translations can be applied.
- To add language options beyond the default, contact your System Administrator. The System Administrator adds languages by following the steps in the Global Languages configuration within the Learn Admin Area.
Overview
- Per-block translations -- applied to individual blocks within the Block Editor
- Page-wide translations -- applied across the entire page using a language selector in the publication panel
Translation Method Overview
| Translation Method | Applies To |
|---|---|
| Per-block | Article Stages, Audio Visual (AV) Stages, PDF Stages, Resources |
| Page-wide | Quiz Stages, SCORM Stages, Missions, Levels, Pathways, Notifications |
The Block Editor
Method 1: Per-Block Translations
Steps: How to Add a Per-Block Translation
- Open the Stage (an individual piece of learning content within a Mission) or Resource (a non-scored reference material available to learners) in the Learn Admin Area.
- Locate the block to translate within the Block Editor.
- Click the language button in the block's toolbar.
- Select the target language from the list.
- The block saves existing content as the English version and clears the field.
- Enter the translated content for the selected language into the block.
- Repeat steps 2 to 6 for each additional block that requires translation.
- Click Update (or Publish) in the top-right corner to save changes.
Example: To translate content into Japanese, locate each block, select Japanese from the language button, then paste or type the Japanese-language text into the cleared block. Update the title block and any other blocks as needed. Click Update to save.
Method 2: Page-Wide Translations
Steps: How to Add a Page-Wide Translation
- Open the content item (for example, a Quiz Stage or Mission) in the Learn Admin Area.
- Locate the Language section in the publication panel at the top-right of the page. The language defaults to English.
- Select the target language from the dropdown.
- The page refreshes and shows all fields with existing content greyed out.
- Enter translated content into each field over the greyed-out default text.
- Click Update (or Publish) to save the translations.
Example -- translating a Quiz Stage: Open the relevant Quiz Stage and navigate to the Publish panel on the right side of the page. Locate the language option (defaulted to English), select the target language, and enter the translated text into the greyed-out text fields. Click Update when complete.
How the Learn App Applies Translations to Learners
Important Notes
- The default language is English. All blocks default to English until a translation is added. Always ensure the default language version is complete and accurate, as it acts as the fallback for all unsupported languages.
- Language availability is controlled by System Administrators. If a required language is not visible in the language button dropdown, contact your System Administrator to enable the language via Global Languages configuration.
- Per-block and page-wide translation methods are distinct. The correct method is determined by content type. For example, Quiz Stages only support page-wide translation -- the per-block option is not available for that content type.
- Save all changes. Always click Update or Publish after entering translations to ensure changes are saved.
Troubleshooting
| Issue | Cause | Resolution |
|---|---|---|
| Translation option is not available | Translations are not enabled for the content or platform | Contact the system administrator to enable translation functionality for Learn content |
| Translated content does not display correctly | Formatting issues or unsupported characters | Review formatting settings and ensure character encoding supports the target language |
| Users see content in the wrong language | User language preferences not set correctly | Instruct users to update their profile language settings or contact support to adjust defaults |
| Changes to source content not reflected in translations | Manual update required; no automatic synchronization | Review and manually update each translated version when source content changes |
| Media or images missing in translated version | Media not linked correctly in translation | Re-upload or re-link media files to the translated content version |

- Cross-Module Implications: This article is scoped entirely within Evotix Learn. No Assure configuration is required. Language configuration (adding new languages) is managed by the System Administrator in the Learn Global Languages settings. The learner's device language setting determines which translation is displayed in the Learn App. When a Mission is assigned via the Assure People module, the language the learner sees is determined by their device language -- not by the Assure assignment itself. Administrators must ensure translated content has been published in Learn for every language their learner population requires.
