This video introduces the Block Editor, explaining how administrators can create and customise content within Learn. It covers formatting options, embedding media, and structuring engaging learning materials.
You can watch this video for an overview to learn about this topic or keep reading the article below.
The Block Editor
The block editor is the content creation tool used to create stages and resources in Learn. It can be used to combine text, images, video, and other content into a single stage or resource.
If you choose a SCORM, PDF, quiz, or audio visual stage, you do not have to use the block editor to create the content. In these examples, the block editor is still and option to add additional text or other content in addition to the primary training content. The block editor is the primary tool for building content in article stages.
THE BLOCKS
In the block editor, content is built using individual, specialized content frames called blocks. These blocks allow you easily add different types of content and rearrange to match the format you want.
Below is a list of the Blocks currently available in Learn:
- Paragraph
- The building block of all Learn content, the paragraph lets you build out text in a post that can be styled, aligned, hyperlinked and more.
- Heading
- Break up the content in the page and highlight different topics using headings.
- List
- Add bulleted or numbered lists of content that can be indented to ensure all information is put across properly.
- Quote
- Add a relevant quote to highlight a point in the stage.
- Table
- Add data or a grid of text and images to the body of a stage.
- Image
- Images in the body of the article add an alternative way to deliver content to the users, condensing what might be several sentences into a single picture.
- Video
- Videos can be added to play inline to add extra detail to the content with a visual demonstration.
- File
- Files in the content of the post can be opened by the user to then be downloaded to their device if needed.
- Columns
- Columns allow content to be shown on the page in a more ordered appearance, especially in cases where text is needed next to an image
- Group
- Groups blocks together to move around the admin page as one block, making it easier to organize content on the page
- Spacer
- Add space in the page to break up content and neaten the stage's appearance
- Custom HTML
- If you have any specific HTML to add specific items to the page, the Custom HTML block allows custom components to be added in the body of the stage
- Embeds
- External files, videos, and pages can be embedded in the post page to allow more users to view all the content available.
- Media and files must have < iframe > tags on either side of the url
ADDING BLOCKS
Each new stage or resource starts with a blank block at the top of the page. This block defaults to a text block so that you can simply begin typing and add text. You can also add a different type of block.
Adding other types of block to the page can be done via three different methods:
- The '+' button in the top left corner of the admin page
- The '+' button at the left / right end of a blank block
- Pressing '/' when in a blank block
Pressing either of the '+' buttons will show a list of all the blocks in the platform, and clicking an option will add the block in the stage:
Pressing '/' will also bring up a list of all available blocks, which can be filtered by typing the name of the desired block, then pressing either return to create the block:
