Points, leaderboards, and badges – Use Gamification to encourage Learners
In Learn gamification is used to encourage users to regularly use the app and continue learning and refreshing their knowledge. As users complete stages they earn points that contribute to their monthly and overall scores.
Points
Users earn points each time they complete a stage for the first time. Some stage types can be configured to allow users to earn different numbers of points per completion, whereas others are set values.
The following stages can be configured to set the number of points earned on first completion:
- Article stages
- Audio Visual stages
- PDF stages
By default, all the above stage types will earn the user 10 points on first completion. More information on configuration can be found here.
The following stages have a set the number of points earned on first completion:
- Quiz stages earn the user 10 points for each correct answer on their first successful attempt
- SCORM stages earn the user 10 points when first completed
The Leaderboard
Earned points are then used to update the user's position in the leaderboard, found through the user's dashboard.
How to reach your leaderboard
The leaderboard has two views:
- Monthly
- The monthly leaderboard resets on the first day of each month, returning all user scores to 0
- This reset encourages users to return to the app and aim for the top of the leaderboard again, as well as starting all users at a level point
- Overall
- The all-time leaderboard doesn't reset and instead shows the total scores that each user has earned over their time using the app
Badges
As well as points, users earn badges each time they complete a mission on their pathway, which are then displayed on their dashboard.
The badges users have earned are highlighted in the list of all available awards.
Badges are assigned to each mission and quickly indicate the skills that the user has learned while using the app.
The four most recently earned badges are shown as a preview in the dashboard, and users can view all badges available in the platform by clicking the View all button to the top right of the section. Each badge can be earned more than once - the first time they are earned they turn from grey to gold, and if earned a second time, a number will appear on the badge showing the number of times it has been earned.
